DSMZ STR profile database

In 2008, Leibniz Institute DSMZ carried out a comparison and harmonisation of comprehensive datasets of DNA STR (Short Tandem Repeats) profiles of cell banks ATCC, JCRB and RIKEN as a human cell line cross-contamination initiative. In order to enable a bank-independent and worldwide multi-center STR profile search, the STR databases were merged into an international STR database with over 2500 STR reference profiles. Since 2010 a user-friendly interface of the interactive reference database of STR profiles has been available for the operation of a simple search engine to query the STR profiles (Dirks WG et al., Int J Cancer. 2010 Jan 1;126(1):303-4).
